I’m running the California Meaningful Miles 5k/

I’m running the California Meaningful Miles 5k/10k to support @backonmyfeet and we need your support! Money raised from this race will help #backonmyfeet combat homelessness through the power of running, community support and essential employment and housing resources. 7 weeks ago I decided I wanted to put on a race, 6 weeks ago it went live on Ultra Sign Up and this past weekend saw it happen with the inaugural event of #BabbittsBackyardUltra.

The #BackyardUltra race format is unique in that it can last for 6 hours or 6 days. Everyone has an hour to run a 4.16667 mile lap and then have to be back on the start line at the start of the next hour to run it again. The race keeps going until there is only one runner left standing.

33 runners turned up on race day to toe the line and the last runner standing continued for 19 hours and 79 miles.

I have been overwhelmed by the amount of positive feedback I have received and it makes my heart sing to hear that everyone had a great time. I feel so grateful to be part of this community ❤️

I also wanted to run in the race which was part of my original motivation to put on the race in the first place, but in hindsight directing a race doesn’t give much opportunity for rest or relaxation to prep the mind and body to have the best running day. For me personally it wasn’t the day I wished for suffering with hip pain from lap 3 which progressively got worse throughout the day and finally when I had only 1 minute left between laps I decided to call it a day. I managed 16 laps and 67 miles. Thank you @alimartinez5273 for crewing me and my no.1 furry fans Freya, Logan & Lola for their snuggles and cheering.

Have I caught the race directors bug, heck yeah!! Will I run in another race where I am the director, I doubt it 😂😂😂

These are on my #musthave list @gordiniusa mittens. I couldn’t live without them on the Arizona Trail last year. I find only mittens are able to keep my hands warm and these are so lightweight they are easy to carry on trail adventures. I have another more hardcore pair for when it gets super wintry cold but these suit me the majority of the time. LOVE LOVE LOVE
